We we’re going to look into having our acrylic countertop next to the stove refinished, because of some dark burn spots. Then I came across this product and through it was worth a try, as it’s much cheaper. You can see the spots in the first photo, with tape around them. The second photo was after I applied the epoxy and glue, and the third photo was after it had been sanded. At first it was quite difficult to get the epoxy and glue to come out. When it did, more of the glue came out first, so the dark spot that you can see in the finished photo didn’t get enough epoxy to cover it. I also got it too thick on all the spots, and had to do a lot of sanding. In hindsight, I should have squirted it out onto cardboard, and used a toothpick to apply a thin layer. After sanding it down, I realized I needed thinner tape to be able to sand it down even with the counter. So, I replaced the masking tape with packing tape. However, the epoxy inside the tape was still higher, and I had to remove it to finish sanding. This took the glossy finish off the countertop around the epoxy. I’m providing details, so you can learn from my mistakes. The odor is extremely strong, and burned my eyes. I had to wear two masks, protective eyewear, and gloves. Once it dried, there was no smell, until I started sanding, so keep the gloves, mask and eyewear handy for that.Overall, the results are pretty good. The spots do look a lot better now, but I wish a clear glossy finish came with the kit. If I have to use it again, I’ll use packing tape to begin with, and apply a thinner layer of epoxy/glue, so it isn’t so much work.
